THE screenwriter

Nina Galen was born in Greenwich Village and grew up in Hollywood. She earned a BA in English at UCLA and a Master’s at UNM. Galen lived and traveled abroad for 18 years and has resided in towns and cities around the US such as Santa Fe, New Mexico and Lincoln and Ogallala, Nebraska.

Galen’s novels have been published variously in the United States, England and France to excellent reviews in such journals as The New Yorker and the Times Literary Supplement (London). A short story of hers was published in Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, and a scholarly essay on Lord Jim in Nineteenth Century Fiction. (On occasion she has used the pen names Bruce Buck and Charles Nicolo.)

During her years piloting small planes, Galen was a popular contributor to aviation magazines here and abroad. In her travels she made a wealth of unusual friends, such as a Danish megalomaniac in an Indian ashram, an Air America chopper pilot in Saigon, a psychopathic handyman in California, and Hitler’s test pilot, Hanna Reitsch, on a French airfield. Some of these individuals and others she fictionalized in her writings.
